Low level laser therapy (LLLT) is a non surgical and not invasive treatment option to stabilize hair loss and encourage hair regrowth. The laser light can inhibit and breakdown dihydrotestosterone (DHT). DHT is a male hormone that can cause hair loss in both males and females who are genetically susceptible. 5-alpha reductase is an enzyme that converts free testosterone into tissue DHT. LLLT can inhibit 5-alpha reductase and prevent DHT from collecting in the scalp. DHT causes loss of visible hair on the scalp due to progressive miniaturization of hair follicles and is found to be elevated in balding scalp tissue and shrunken hair follicles.
